What Is Reiki and What Are the Benefits?

What Is Reiki and What Are the Benefits?

Alternative and complementary therapies are popping up all over. People are looking for non-invasive answers to what ails them instead of always opting for surgery. One of those complementary healing techniques is Reiki.

What is Reiki? Reiki is a healing therapy that works with modern medical techniques, hence the name “complementary.” Reiki uses hands-on techniques to channel energy from the Reiki master to the client and thus heal them. With this form of healing, it is not only the energy of the receiver but also the energy and balance of the Reiki healer.

Reiki healing works to restore the energy flow or ki (pronounced chee) within the body. Stress can obstruct the flow of energy throughout the body. If there is disease going on in the body, energy flow or ki can be low and the body can still be out of balance. The Reiki healer introduces energy from a limitless divine source into the body of the client to aid in healing the body.

This form of healing was originally started in Tibet. A renewed form of the healing technique was developed by a Japanese Buddhist and named Reiki which means “universal life force energy.” This universal life force has many names: God, Buddha, Love, Ki, etc). It connects all of us together through this “one energy.” The Reiki master taps into this energy through their training.

A Reiki master is familiar with the energy flow of the body and how they can tap into and change that energy with their own energy through the laying on of hands. Through Reiki training, practitioners learn about how to channel that energy through intention. The person being healed is also interested in healing themselves physically, emotionally and spiritually and takes an active role in the process. When this intention is strong, a Reiki healer can affect changes in the body of an individual even from far away without physical contact taking place.

Reiki healing has many health benefits. A healer can use the joining of the energies to relieve such imbalances caused by depression, stress, anxiety, worry, build-up of toxins in the body, trauma, injury, negative thoughts and others. These conditions manifest themselves in many ways within the body.

Reiki masters use their training to benefit the body in many ways:

* Better sleep patterns
* Lower blood pressure
* Pain relief
* Boosting immune system function
* Emotional and spiritual growth
* Detoxification
* Unblocking ki energy

Reiki healing is a complementary hands-on therapy used to restore the flow of energy in the body by channeling energy through a master practitioner to the client. It is good for those suffering from stress as it helps relieve the symptoms and restore balance to the body. The energy flow of the Reiki healer also assists the client in their own healing in the body when they are sick.

What is Shiatsu and how can it help the body?

What is Shiatsu and how can it help the body?

Shiatsu massage is based on the Chinese thought that all of the body is connected and functions according to a flow of energy called ki (chee). Shiatsu massage technique is different from traditional massage but provides health benefits similar to it. Have you had a shiatsu massage lately?

Shiatsu massage is also known as acupressure. It is similar to acupuncture in that pressure is applied at certain points of the body called meridians. These are the lines of energy flow in the body. When the body is out of balance, stimulating these energy lines will help return the body back to its normal state.

Shiatsu is different from a traditional massage because pressure is applied by the tips of the fingers and sometimes the palms to various areas of the body. Shiatsu massagers use a rhythmic pattern of pressure to stimulate the ki. It’s almost like those chairs in malls that say shiatsu massager and it feels like someone is poking you at different points on your back when you sit down. Having an actual shiatsu massage is much more pleasant.

Before the massage begins, the massage therapist will ask you about the conditions in your body. Do you suffer from headaches, backache or poor circulation? Shiatsu massage can help with poor circulation, digestive problems, headaches, stress-related conditions, arthritis and other ailments. Using a map of the meridian lines of the body, your massage therapist will map out the massage he will do for you based on the information you gave to him.

Shiatsu massage is performed on a low table or a mat much like a futon on the floor, for better control. Also, the client stays fully clothed during the massage and no oil needs to be applied because the fingertips are used. It is recommended that you wear comfortable clothing so it is easy to reach all pressure points on your body.

Like other massages, do not eat before having a shiatsu massage. If you are pregnant, consult a doctor before having any type of massage. People prone to blood clots should not have any massage as the pressure could dislodge a clot with dangerous results. Wait until after bumps or bruises heal before a shiatsu massage. Some of the finger pressure techniques can leave an area tender and that wouldn’t feel good on a bruise.

The pressure can be firm at times but it is a positive pain.
Restoring the energy flow in the body means your symptoms will be alleviated. A shiatsu massage may be able to help with nausea and depression too.

If you are suffering from stress, depression or other bodily issues, a shiatsu massage may help. Those who have had one have found relief for their pain by the restoration of their ki.
