<p><strong>Three Bone Healthy Lunch Ideas</strong></p>
<p>It is never too early or too late to start thinking about your bones. You will have them all of your life and they are needed to support your body’s weight. To keep those bones strong, here are three ways you can get what you need in your food.</p>
<p>Lunch is a pivotal meal during the day. It relieves the hunger from the morning’s activities and also sets you up to have the energy to make it through the afternoon until dinnertime. In some countries, lunch is the biggest meal of the day for this reason. </p>
<p>One of the most important minerals when talking about bones is calcium. The best source of calcium is from the food we eat. There are <a href="http://fitnesshealthtoday.com/vitamins-that/about" style="font-family:Verdana;color:#000099;" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" onmouseover="self.status='http://fitnesshealthtoday.com/vitamins-that/about';return true;" onmouseout="self.status=''">supplements</a> but they do not all provide the same source of calcium that food does. And, they are not to be taken unless a doctor recommends them and gives a daily dosage. </p>
<p>Most people don’t take advantage of the calcium sources available. You may drink a glass of milk at breakfast or eat a bowl of cereal, but you can still get more.</p>
<p>That is where lunch can be so helpful. Here is another chance to get the calcium you need for your bones. How? Read on for three great ideas:</p>
<p><strong>1. Add cheese to your meal.</strong> If you are eating a sandwich, include a slice of cheese that contains milk. It is fortified with calcium and vitamin D. Slap a slice on a turkey or ham sandwich. Melt it on top of tuna for a hot sandwich at lunchtime. Crumble up a tablespoon or two or sharp cheddar, Colby or Monterrey Jack cheese to add calcium to the meal.</p>
<p><strong>2. Drink more milk.</strong> In school cafeterias, they serve milk. For kids who aren’t keen on plain milk, there is also low-fat chocolate and strawberry milk. An ice-cold glass or carton of milk will provide one of three servings of dairy for the day and quench your thirst in the process. Soda provides hundreds of calories and you still feel thirsty because of all the sugar.<br />

3. Eat pizza.</strong> It’s okay every once in a while. For kids, the key here is the calcium-rich cheese. <p><strong>Top Five Vitamin D Rich Snack Tips</strong></p>
<p>Snacks are always getting a bad rap. But, if you snack on the right foods then they are not bad for you. When it comes to preserving your bone against osteoporosis, not only do you need calcium but also vitamin D.</p>
<blockquote><p>Vitamin D and calcium work hand in hand to keep your bones strong and healthy. Calcium as you know comes from dairy products like milk and cheese and also eggs. Vitamin D is usually gotten from exposure to the sun.</p></blockquote>
<p>It is much easier to get your vitamin D in this method, but that was before we knew that the sun’s rays could be harmful. In lieu of baking in the sun and becoming a candidate for skin cancer, you can gain the vitamin D you need from foods. If you’ve got the calcium end taken care of, don’t worry about spending too much time in the sun.</p>
<p>When it comes to snacking, less is more as long as it is nutrient dense. These foods stay on longer, keeping hunger at bay. Here are a few snacks that are rich in vitamin D.</p>
<p><strong>1. Milk contains vitamin D.</strong> Isn’t this great? You can get both your calcium and vitamin D in the same place. Drinking fortified milk also provides a healthy dose of vitamin A.</p>
<p><strong>2. Salmon is good for you.</strong> Snacking on salmon may consist of eating it just like tuna fish. Mix a bit with light or fat-free mayonnaise and spread on a cracker for a mid-morning or mid-afternoon snack. Cold water fish are also high in omega-3 fatty acids which strengthen immunity and protect your heart. Other fish may also contain vitamin D. If you don’t like salmon, try tuna steaks. </p>
<p><strong>3. Cereal is fortified with vitamin D.</strong> if you don’t want to go into sugar shock, choose the cereals that contain whole grains and other nutrients. A cereal with vitamin D added is what is known as a functional food. Eat a small bowl with some milk for your mid-morning break so you won’t get hungry before lunch.</p>
<p><strong>4. Eggs are good for your vitamin D needs.</strong> At one time they were saying that eggs had too much <a href="http://fitnesshealthtoday.com/cholesterol" style="font-family:Verdana;color:#000099;" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" onmouseover="self.status='http://fitnesshealthtoday.com/cholesterol';return true;" onmouseout="self.status=''">cholesterol</a> and were not good for you. But, eggs contain vitamin D which you need to help build strong bones. Avoid the extra calories from frying an egg by eating them hard-boiled.</p>
<p><strong>5. Any snack food fortified with vitamin D is good to eat. </strong>You may have to look long and hard for these. There are some yogurts that may have vitamin D added, especially if they are made with whole milk. Check the labels to be sure.</p>

<p><strong>Six Easy Tips to help Change Your Bad Food Habits</strong></p>
<blockquote><p>We all have certain foods that we love to eat even when eating too much is bad. These are most often comfort foods that are hard to give up. If you are making <a href="http://fitnesshealthtoday.com/nutrition-good" style="font-family:Verdana;color:#000099;" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" onmouseover="self.status='http://fitnesshealthtoday.com/nutrition-good';return true;" onmouseout="self.status=''">food choices</a> that aren’t the best, here are some suggestions for making changes.</p></blockquote>
<p>You have probably sabotaged your eating habits once or twice. You didn’t intend to but it just so happened that you had that last box of chocolate cookies in the cupboard. Since you know they are there, you’ll be more likely to reach for them when stressed or you think you are hungry.</p>
<p>Before you fret, there is hope for all of us. Use the following steps to turn those hard to get rid of habits into winning techniques for weight-loss success.</p>
<p><strong>1. Never go to the grocery store hungry</strong>. This is another sabotaging method. You might be saying to yourself that you are only going into the grocery store for a few things. With your stomach rumbling, you are prone to abandon the pack of boneless, skinless chicken breasts for fried chicken wings at the deli.<br />

2. Don’t snack while cooking.</strong> This is a habit many of us have, especially around the holidays. Instead of eating a proper meal or a snack, you nibble on the good things in the kitchen. Even if you are cooking a healthier meal, you can eat too much before the meal is even served.<br />
<strong><br />
3. Change one habit at a time. </strong>Let’s say that you love full-fat ice cream and eating macaroni and cheese. Give up one thing at a time. To wean yourself, try a lower fat alternative. This way you can keep eating a lower fat version of that food. Don’t go cold turkey.</p>
<p><strong>4. See a therapist.</strong> A therapist such as a hypnotherapist can help you to understand why this habit is so addictive. Hypnotherapy is used to help people to get rid of their bad or annoying habits through a series of positive suggestions implanted in your mind during your sessions.</p>
<p><strong>5. Make a plan. </strong>It is not enough to say that you will change your bad eating habits. That is a vague statement that gets you nowhere. You have to write it down and commit to it. For example, say that you will begin eating whole grains instead of white bread, or using lower fat dairy products over full-fat ones with more calories.<br />

6. Keep a food journal.</strong> Record everything that you eat for a week. When you go back to it you may be amazed at all of the sweet, salty or fatty foods you consumed. Use the journal to create a list of the foods that are and are not healthy for you so you can make a plan to make changes.</p>

<strong><br />
1. Prepare your food ahead of time.</strong> The chief complaint about making a healthy dinner is that you don’t have time. Take a day on the weekend when you have more time and whip up a few nutritious dishes for the following week. Because you have the time, you can experiment with spices and different foods you may not have tried before.<br />
<strong><br />
2. Read your food labels.</strong> Now, just about every food has a label on it. Here you can find out the amount of fat, calories, carbohydrates, sodium and <a href="http://fitnesshealthtoday.com/protein-after" style="font-family:Verdana;color:#000099;" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" onmouseover="self.status='http://fitnesshealthtoday.com/protein-after';return true;" onmouseout="self.status=''">protein</a> per serving. 3. Make over some of your favorite dishes.</strong> Do you like fried chicken? <p><strong>6. Drink water.</strong> Drinking several glasses of water can keep hunger at bay until you get a chance to eat. It also gives you time to assess whether you are really hungry, thirsty or just stressed.</p>

<p>As we enter the New Year 2010, we are reminded that it is time for those New Year&#8217;s resolution once again. When like most Americans, you may decide that it&#8217;s time to take stock of your personal state of health and start shedding those unwanted pounds.</p>
<p>It is no secret that two out every three Americans are overweight  and a disturbing  15% of our children ages 6 to 19 are overweight and this number is on the rise, increasing the risk of children diabetes and a lower life expectancy. With that in mind it should come as no surprise to find that weight loss will be very prominent on most resolution lists for this New Year. Unfortunately, by the end of January the vast majority of these resolutions will most likely be broken.</p>
<p>You may be wondering why so many people will fail to follow through on such a vital function that will without any doubt have a large impact on their health.  there may be many reasons for this, let&#8217;s look at a few.</p>
<p>- Disinformation from the weight loss industry. Today the weight loss and wellness industry is a trillion dollar industry and yet the problem keeps getting more critical each day. More Americans are on <a href="http://fitnesshealthtoday.com/truthabs" style="font-family:Verdana;color:#000099;" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" onmouseover="self.status='http://fitnesshealthtoday.com/truthabs';return true;" onmouseout="self.status=''">weight loss</a> diets of one kinds or the other, but with less success than ever before. Where ever you turn, you&#8217;ll find more gyms, <a href="http://fitnesshealthtoday.com/weightloss" style="font-family:Verdana;color:#000099;" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" onmouseover="self.status='http://fitnesshealthtoday.com/weightloss';return true;" onmouseout="self.status=''">weight loss</a> clubs and diet programs being advertised than ever before. The isles in the supermarkets are flowing over with <a href="http://fitnesshealthtoday.com/nutrition-articles/order.shtml" style="font-family:Verdana;color:#000099;" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" onmouseover="self.status='http://fitnesshealthtoday.com/nutrition-articles/order.shtml';return true;" onmouseout="self.status=''">diet</a> products, and yet more of us are losing the battle of the bulge than ever before.</p>
<p>Within the industry there are just so many unrealistic promises being made. You&#8217;ll see ads on TV, in the print media and on the internet daily, promising weight loss of unrealistic proportion in record time. Not only are some of these claims misleading, but they often lead to disappointments and frustration on the part of many weight loss candidates when they fail to achieve the promised results.</p>
<p>- Deceptive Practices By the food industry. Our influences are largely shaped by what we read but more so by what we see on television. The Food Industry spends millions of dollars to convince us we should continue to consume their products with no regards for our health. As long as their sales keep going up they will have no incentive to improve the nutritional value of their products. Rest assured, that As long as the consumers seem contented the government won&#8217;t step in to set higher standard for the industry.</p>
<p>- Unrealistic expectation on the part of some consumers. In today&#8217;s fast moving society some people are very impatient and are not prepared to spend the time nor are they willing to make the sacrifices necessary to achieve the desired result. Thus they fall prey to these promises of quick and easy weight loss. While forgetting that the excess weight did not just appear overnight, but are the result of a steady accumulation of fats over a period of time.</p>
<p>Weight gain is primarily caused by an energy imbalance, meaning that the foods you consume are providing more calories than you are burning which causes your body to store the excess calories as fat.</p>
<p>To lose weight you will need to create an energy deficit by consuming fewer calories, increase the amount you burn through physical activities or a combination of both.</p>

<p>Proper nutrition is vital to weight management and personal wellness. Understanding how your body works and what your diet should be is vital on your personal journey to optimum wellness and better health. Wellness balances the overall quality of life. Wellness is &#8220;the condition of good phyical and mental health&#8221;.</p>
<p>A balanced diet is crucial for providing our bodies with the nutrients needed to make it function properly. However, most of us find making healthy choices to be a challenge. The reality of our daily diet is that we consume an excessive amount of the foods that have adverse effects on our health, while on the other hand there are great deficiencies in our intake of the foods that provide the nutrients our body need to function properly.</p>

<p><strong>Butter or Margarine -Which One Is the Healthy Option</strong></p>
<p>There have been debates about which is better of the two when someone is trying to <a href="http://fitnesshealthtoday.com/weightloss" style="font-family:Verdana;color:#000099;" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" onmouseover="self.status='http://fitnesshealthtoday.com/weightloss';return true;" onmouseout="self.status=''">lose weight</a>. Butter or margarine, which one is the healthy option? Both of them have advantages; this comparison may help you decide which one is the best choice for you.</p>
<p>Mankind has been making butter in one form or another for thousands of years. It was originally made from the milk of water buffalo or camels. Today it’s made from cow’s milk but the process is exactly the same as it’s been for over six millennia. </p>
<p>One of the reasons why some people say to stay away from butter is that it contains saturated fat. What most people don’t understand, however, is that the cholesterol in the food you eat has little to no effect on the blood <a href="http://fitnesshealthtoday.com/cholesterol" style="font-family:Verdana;color:#000099;" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" onmouseover="self.status='http://fitnesshealthtoday.com/cholesterol';return true;" onmouseout="self.status=''">cholesterol</a> levels of most people. </p>
<p>As a way to combat the problems claimed to be caused by butter, margarine was created toward the second half of the last century. However, margarine didn’t live up to all the claims made about it either. Margarine was laden with man-made trans fats which are created during hydrogenation, the process of taking liquid vegetable oil and making it into a solid which is spreadable.</p>
<p>Of course, now that medical and dietetic medicine has realized how harmful trans fats truly are, margarine has changed to meet the new medical guidelines. Does this mean margarine is the better choice? That may or may not be true. Manufacturers are in the process of creating margarines which are not hydrogenated; the results are softer margarines, but at least they’re not full of trans fatty acids.</p>
<p>Are there reasons to continue using butter rather than using margarine? The truth is there have been studies which have explained the importance of adding butter to healthy diets. Butter contains <a href="http://fitnesshealthtoday.com/vitamins-that/privacy.html" style="font-family:Verdana;color:#000099;" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" onmouseover="self.status='http://fitnesshealthtoday.com/vitamins-that/privacy.html';return true;" onmouseout="self.status=''">vitamins</a> A, D, E, and K which are absent in margarine. It also helps to boost our <a href="http://fitnesshealthtoday.com/immunizations" style="font-family:Verdana;color:#000099;" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" onmouseover="self.status='http://fitnesshealthtoday.com/immunizations';return true;" onmouseout="self.status=''">immune system</a> which margarine cannot claim. </p>
<p>The studies go on to explain how butter actually helps to produce hormones. The fat in butter also supports our organs, bones, and our brain. Add all of the results of the studies together and you may decide to begin purchasing butter again.</p>
<p>Is there another reason to choose butter over margarine? Animal fats are more satisfying than vegetable fats. If you’re eating something made with an animal fat, like butter, you’re likely to be more satisfied, will have to eat less to achieve that sense of satisfaction, and be less likely to eat snacks between meals. When you’re more satisfied and eating less, you can’t help but to <a href="http://fitnesshealthtoday.com/BurnBellyfat" style="font-family:Verdana;color:#000099;" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" onmouseover="self.status='http://fitnesshealthtoday.com/BurnBellyfat';return true;" onmouseout="self.status=''">lose weight</a>.</p>
<p>From a merely culinary standpoint, margarine can’t compare with butter. Butter can be heated to a much higher temperature which means you can achieve the browning effect called for in many recipes. Animal fat is also a good carrier of flavors so your food will probably taste better, which goes back to the sense of satisfaction you’ll feel.</p>
<p>Butter and margarine have nearly the same calories, so there isn’t much difference between the two from that standpoint. If you choose margarine over butter, be sure you find one of the brands which are not made with trans fats.</p>

<p>As you age, it is even more important to take care of yourself. <p>Getting older doesn’t have to be a curse.  As we age, there are a number of changes that go on in the body but we can deal with them by eating healthy, physical activity and getting some help from friends and family.</p>
<p>The body seems to betray us as we age.  Maybe you don’t see as well as you used to or have as steady a hand.  Inside, hormone levels drop as well as energy levels.  Bones and muscles lose some of their strength which means walking slower or enduring joint pains.  </p>

<p><strong>Six Tips and ways to Eating Healthy on a Tight Budget</strong></p>
<p><strong>Eating the right foods is essential to good health.</strong> Too much fat and sugar in the <a href="http://fitnesshealthtoday.com/nutrition-know" style="font-family:Verdana;color:#000099;" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" onmouseover="self.status='http://fitnesshealthtoday.com/nutrition-know';return true;" onmouseout="self.status=''">diet</a> can cause a laundry list of health problems, not to mention that it makes it difficult to maintain a healthy weight. We also need to get in all of the nutrients that are essential to good health. And we must watch out for meats that contain antibiotics and hormones and produce that contains pesticides or has been genetically modified.</p>
<p>Unfortunately, eating healthy isn&#8217;t always as easy as it sounds. Sometimes we just don&#8217;t have the time to make or seek out healthy meals and end up eating convenience foods or something from the closest burger joint. And for those of us who make it a priority to eat balanced meals, cost is often prohibitive. Organic meats and produce aren&#8217;t cheap, and health food restaurants can be pricey, too.</p>
<p>As impossible as it may sound, we can eat healthy without putting a big dent in the budget. Here are some tips:</p>
<p><strong>* Grow your own fruits and <a href="http://fitnesshealthtoday.com/vitamins-that/disclaimer.html" style="font-family:Verdana;color:#000099;" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" onmouseover="self.status='http://fitnesshealthtoday.com/vitamins-that/disclaimer.html';return true;" onmouseout="self.status=''">vegetables</a>.</strong> Most climates are conducive to growing a variety of edible plants. All you&#8217;ll need is some seeds, some very inexpensive equipment, and a place to grow your plants. A pack of seeds that costs less than a dollar can yield enough food to last quite a while.</p>
<p><strong>* Can or freeze some fruits and veggies for winter.</strong> Chances are you&#8217;ll have some left over from the growing season, so save them for a few months down the road. Older family members can teach you the techniques you need to know, or you can find information online or at the library.</p>
<p><strong>* Buy local as much as possible.</strong> Farmer&#8217;s markets offer fresh food that is locally grown, and the prices are almost always lower than organic foods from other sources. Farmers who only sell locally are less likely to have their offerings certified as organic, but you can ask them about their use of such things as pesticides, antibiotics and hormone treatments face-to-face.</p>
<p><strong>* Buy staples such as flour and rice in bulk</strong>. In most cases, the bigger the package, the better the deal. If you&#8217;re not sure, divide the price by the number of ounces for each package and buy the one with the lowest price per ounce.</p>
<p><strong>* Stock up on meats when they&#8217;re on sale.</strong> You can store them in the freezer for several months to a year depending on the type of meat. They will be less prone to freezer burn if you wrap them in aluminum foil or freezer wrap in addition to the packaging they are sold in.</p>
<p><strong>* Eat out as little as possible.</strong> Most restaurants have few or no truly healthy options on their menus, and the ones that do are rarely cheap. Preparing your own meals most of the time gives you more control over what you&#8217;re eating and saves you money.</p>
<p><strong>Eating healthy doesn&#8217;t have to cost a fortune. By growing some of our own food, buying local and watching for sales, we can eat well without going broke</strong>.</p>
