Eat healthily!. I’m not suggesting that you go vegetarian, eating whole grain foods or maxing out on fruit and vegetables. I’m talking about getting a balance into or back into your eating habits and lifestyle. Eat three meals a day. Steady blood sugar levels from regular eating habits will help reduce anxiety.

If you don’t it, try missing a meal and watch your anxiety levels increase.

Stop eating junk food. Take time to eat and enjoy it. Cook proper meals. It may seem simple but savour your food and take time to eat it. Let yourself relax and slow down when you eat. A bit of quality me time will always help to reduce your anxiety levels so stop eating on the run and don’t snack.

Get some exercise! But have fun. Do something that you enjoy and begin exercising on a regular basis. Aerobic exercise is known to help with anxious thinking by releasing endorphins into the blood. These produce a natural feel good factor whenever we exercise. Exercise will distract you from your worries and it will also help your heart to cope with the effects of anxiety. Try to do different exercises to keep it interesting. Try an exercise class once a week, take up a sport like squash or tennis that forces you to interact with other people to take your mind off your anxiety. Join your local gym, try swimming. Even a brisk walk will wake up your brain and help you cope. Mix strength building and aerobic exercise. As you get more fit you will start to feel better about yourself and cope better with anxiety.

Try a weekly class of Pilates or Yoga. It will show you useful breathing exercises that will help you relax and get you fit into the bargain.

Start slowly. Try ten minutes exercise each day to begin with and then, as you get fitter decide about joining a class or a local gym. Build up the level of exercise slowly. You are far more likely to stick with it if you start gradually and increase it slowly.

Allocate some time to your anxious thoughts. One thing about anxiety is how it can start at any time, taking you by surprise. You’re just getting on with your day and suddenly an anxious thought brings everything to a halt. Try just accepting it. Is it something worth spending time worrying about? If it is, then tell yourself that you will think about it later. Allocate a time to think about your worries. At the alloted time, think them through to a conclusion.

This is a surprisingly powerful mind game that really helps to to take control of your thinking.

It also works for the anxious thoughts that wake you up at two in the morning. Simply acknowledge the anxious thought but tell yourself that you’ll take a look at it in the morning after breakfast.

You can do lots to help yourself with anxiety or even overcome anxiety completely. Give yourself the best chance that you can by beginning your own home treatment for anxiety regime.
