3 Exercise Tips For Busy People

During my Secret Service employment (3 years), I was super-busy traveling. Staying fit was very difficult, yet achievable with the right mindset, the desire to stay in shape, and the proper knowledge of how to exercise. Here are my 3 favorite ways for busy people to overcome barriers to fitness and get moving right now:

1. 5,000 calories per year SIMPLY! – Let’s say you burn 20 calories per day parking in the farthest spot away from the door, opposed to burning 2 calories parking really close. That doesn’t sound like much, agree? How about over the course of an entire year? Do the math and you will see that simply parking far away can add up to 5,000 or more calories! Take this habit with you to the grocery store and shopping mall and you can triple, even quadruple your calories burned.

*summary- healthy weight loss is the result of making small habit changes in your life that add up to HUGE results.

2. Pass on the stairs- Do you work on the 88th floor? Take the elevator to 55 and walk from there. Do you work on the 10th floor? You should never take the stairs. Again- the calories burned in one day would not be significant in regards to shedding a few pounds, but imagine taking 10 flights of stairs every single day over the course of an entire year! This can add up to tens of thousands of calories burned.

*summary- focus on moving your feet whenever you possibly can throughout the day

3. Too busy? Think twice- What time do you wake up? Is it possible to sneak in a few minutes of exericse before you shower? Of course. The problem is you haven’t prioritized exercise higher than sleeping in; therefore, you will continue to sleep in. Once heart disease, high blood pressure, or diabetes set in from lack of exercise, you will begin to prioritize exercise higher than sleeping in. Make sense? If not, please read this one again- it just may save your life or the life of someone you love.

*Summary- what sounds better in your “too busy to exercise” mindset? 1hr of exercise or 24hrs of being dead?
